Paradox

Paradox and the Abyss are not two separate things, they are one, what we call Paradox is the Abyss lashing out, attempting to force the Lie, whatever we attempt can cause it to attack, the more 'unnatural' an act is, the more likely it is that they Abyss will try to stop it and the harder it'll hit. (Ex: Making it snow in summer, daylight at night, etc) But even smaller things like charming an item to create fire on command, can cause the Abyss to react, its unpredictable.

These depend on the witch, how strong they are, what going on around them, what elements are in play. Keep in mind, everything we do, can alert other supernaturals to our presence on top of whatever the Abyss throws at as. Be Wise.
  • Backlash - Rather than allow a "true paradox" to occur, a witch can endure the pain of what is called backlash, sacrificing their health to mitigate the potential hazards a paradox can induce while still allowing their spell to go into effect. This is the most common.
  • Havoc - The spell changes from its intended target to something similar but different; e.g. if the target was a human, then another nearby human may be at risk of taking the effects of the spell.
  • Bedlam - Instead of affecting the area around the will-worker, the witch suffers a derangement which increases in severity depending on their skills and ability. This can last hours, days, week or months, even longer, depending on the power of the ritual that was cast.
  • Branding - The mage gains attributes that depend on their sin, ranging from nimbus mutation to bestial disfigurement to markings on the skin that cannot be covered with makeup or tattoos, to having a permanent aura that allows other supernaturals to identify them.
  • Manifestation - Worst of all possibilities, the paradox manifests as an acamoth, with power equal to and rivaling that of the witch who summoned it, ranging from mindless gremlins to unbelievable horrors beyond time and space. To get rid of such entities usually requires intense research or the death of the witch who called it in the first place.   Extremely Rare, this shouldn't be rolled for without contacting on of the RP leaders, if you want this to happen, you'll need to get permission to create a sim-wide event, take note, there are those who would happily kill you to make this problem disappear, we are all under the Masquerade, this would threaten that.
Paradox Rolls
Generally is you fail a spell, you need to make a "paradox roll" to determine if the Abyss noticed.  There are two steps to making a paradox roll, the first step is determining if the Abyss noticed, this is a simple easy or moderate skill rolls (see Skill Rolls here).   If you fail the skill roll, then the Abyss has noticed.  Now roll again to find out what Paradox happened.
  • 17 to 18 - Nothing happens
  • 7 to 16 - Backlash
  • 6 - Havoc
  • 5 - Bedlam
  • 4 - Branding
  • 3 - Manifestation
