This week
our good bartender Mr. Witlock
braved the dance floor even though
the man had a horrid toothache.
The man must love his waltzes.
Unfortunately over the course
of the evening, he became rather
inebriated and began telling odd
things about recent occurrences at
Cruor Cross.
According to Mr. Witlock's mutterings, 'things' have gone missing at St. Bathory hospital and he knows all about it. Questioning the now fuddled man provided no more details, despite our trying. |
Dancing @ Betwixt9/8/2016 Property Stolen9/6/2016 Clayton's Goods was broken into last
night and many items were pilfered from the premises. The
constabulary investigating the scene are baffled as no evidence
of break in was found. The constabulary are looking for
any information residents may have.
Deformed Monster Sighted in Crour Cross8/31/2016 A deformed beast was seen running
through Cruor Cross last evening. The monstrous thing was
sighted running down Dreary Lane toward the forest. Witnesses
saw the beast was dripping blood as it sped past them.
The constabulary warns all residents to not approach this beast if sighted. Warn the constabulary immediately. Prostitute Murdered in Crour Cross8/31/2016 The dismembered body of a prostitute
was found in the graveyard at Cruor Cross. This horrible
murder has shocked residents with it's grizzly details. Many
fear to leave their homes at night until whoever performed this
heinous deed is captured.
The constabulary are looking for any information residents may have. The identity of the victim has not been determined although assurances have been made that the doctors of St. Bathory hospital are examining the body. Dancing at Betwixt8/24/2016 Dramatic Reading at Waterson Books7/10/2016 Dramatic Reading at Waterson Books![]() [2016/07/07 17:57] Robinette Waterson (somethingventured): /me surveys her shop, making sure all is ready for her book reading this evening. She decides a decanter of port wine would be in order, in addition to the sherry, and makes her way next door to the tavern. She sees Mrs. Lui and a gentleman she has not met yet at a table and nods acknowledgement. [2016/07/07 17:52] Digit (digit.ditko): Thank you for joining me commissioner. [2016/07/07 17:54] Darken Lexicon (darkenlexicon): /me sits down with his bourbon. Taking a sip he smiles and nods. "A pleasure I assure you. How do you fair this day?" he nods to the lady standing nearby. "Good day." his smile still ever present. [2016/07/07 17:57] Digit (digit.ditko): I am quite well commissioner, thank you for asking. I do not mean to be rude, but I am leaving for a book reading that Miss Waterson, has been very kind to arrange. I will need to leave for it in a few minutes [2016/07/07 18:00] Darken Lexicon (darkenlexicon): /me grins, "A book reading you say? Sounds interesting. I take it that this is Miss Waterson?" he stands slowly. Placing his hat on the table momentarily as he does. Giving his best smile. He bows with an elegant flourish. "Good to meet you, I am Commissioner Malcolm Sherwood." he introduced himself. [2016/07/07 18:03] Robinette Waterson (somethingventured): /me quickly takes in the man's attractive apparel and well-tended beard. "A pleasure, Commissioner!" She holds out her hand delicately, so that the gentleman might either shake it or kiss it. In return to his bow, she curtsies. "Good to see you as well, Mrs. Lui." [2016/07/07 18:06] Mrs. Lui: /me bows her head slightly to Miss Waterson "Of course, Miss Waterson always a pleasure. Shall we be off to your establishment? " [2016/07/07 18:08] Darken Lexicon (darkenlexicon): /me graciously accepts her hand, his eyes still looking to her as he leans in and softly kiss the offering. "The pleasure is all mine Miss Waterson." smiles to Mrs Lui, "I do hope to be there momentarily." he looks back to Miss Waterson, "What story are you reading?" [2016/07/07 18:11] Robinette Waterson (somethingventured): /me smiles when the Commissioner makes the choice of a kiss. "The book tonight is called "Dracula." Brand new book written by a theater manager, Bram Stoker. I have picked out a few of my favorite passages." She looks to Mrs. Lui and inclines her head to the door. "Yes, let us step next door, now that I have picked up some port. Of course I have tea, but sometimes a reading requires something stronger." She chuckles slightly, knowing she won't drink either. [2016/07/07 18:16] Mrs. Lui: /me looks about at all the lovely books with desire in her eyes "I do so love your shop Miss Waterson, I must come by more often " [2016/07/07 18:22] Robinette Waterson (somethingventured): /me takes a seat and gestures to the others. "Do make yourselves comfortable. There is food and drink on the table, help yourselves if you wish." She reaches for her copy of the new book she recently stocked for her shop. "I think you will enjoy this one. I know I did." [2016/07/07 18:25] Darken Lexicon (darkenlexicon): /me smiles as he looks around the shop. "A very nice place of literature you have Miss Waterson." After hearing Mrs. Waterson's offer, he gratefully pours himself a cup of tea. Adding some honey, he takes a seat and smiles. "I may have to visit her more often." he took a sip of his hot tea and listened intently. [2016/07/07 18:28] Mrs. Lui: /me helps herself to a cup of tea from the tray and takes a brief sip of the warm liquid. [2016/07/07 18:31] Robinette Waterson (somethingventured): /me settles herself in the corner sofa, and smiles to her guests. "This book came highly recommended to me. It was written by the business manager of the Lyceum Theatre in London. I personally think his talent is being wasted there." She opens the book to the first marked spot. [2016/07/07 18:44] Robinette Waterson (somethingventured): /me lifts the glass of sherry she had poured herself earlier, letting the liquid wet her lips. She then clears her throat. "This passage is from the point of view of the protagonist, Johnathan Harker." She begins to read, her voice soft at first, but growing stronger as the passion of the passage intensifies. [2016/07/07 18:44] Robinette Waterson (somethingventured): "I was not alone. The room was the same, unchanged in any way since I came into it. I could see along the floor, in the brilliant moonlight, my own footsteps marked where I had disturbed the long accumulation of dust. In the moonlight opposite me were three young women, ladies by their dress and manner. " [2016/07/07 18:45] Robinette Waterson (somethingventured): /me looks up, checking the attention of her audience. "Is the room too chill?" [2016/07/07 18:48] Mrs. Lui: /me looking spellbound as Miss Waterson begins speaking, seeming lost in the words. "Ahh, no Miss Waterson, please continue". Taking another sip of her, Mrs Lui discreetly adds a dollop of a dark liquid into her cup. [2016/07/07 18:50] Darken Lexicon (darkenlexicon): /me takes care to drink his tea slowly. "Oh no, I find it comfortable. Please continue." she smiled as he allowed his imagination to work the words she read into a scene within his mind. [2016/07/07 18:50] Robinette Waterson (somethingventured): Seeing all eyes on her, Robinette continues. [2016/07/07 18:50] Robinette Waterson (somethingventured): "All three had brilliant white teeth that shone like pearls against the ruby of their voluptuous lips. There was something about them that made me uneasy, some longing and at the same time some deadly fear. I felt in my heart a wicked, burning desire that they would kiss me with those red lips. It is not good to note this down, lest some day it should meet Mina’s eyes and cause her pain, but it is the truth." [2016/07/07 18:51] Robinette Waterson (somethingventured): "They whispered together, and then they all three laughed, such a silvery, musical laugh, but as hard as though the sound never could have come through the softness of human lips. It was like the intolerable, tingling sweetness of waterglasses when played on by a cunning hand. The fair girl shook her head coquettishly, and the other two urged her on." [2016/07/07 18:52] Robinette Waterson (somethingventured): "One said, ‘Go on! You are first, and we shall follow. Yours is the right to begin.’ The other added, ‘He is young and strong. There are kisses for us all.’" [2016/07/07 18:54] Robinette Waterson (somethingventured): /me glances up again, gaging her audience, a glint in her eye. She wipes her brow as if the story has caused her to perspire. [2016/07/07 18:55] Mrs. Lui: /me settles herself into her chair, quite comfortable now. Looking over at Miss Waterson , she smiles slightly encouraging Miss Waterson to continue. [2016/07/07 18:56] Darken Lexicon (darkenlexicon): /me stands from his seat and casually grabs a crumpet. Sitting back down he looked to Miss Waterson, waiting to hear more of the story. The scene playing out majestically with in his mind. [2016/07/07 18:56] Robinette Waterson (somethingventured): "I lay quiet, looking out from under my eyelashes in an agony of delightful anticipation. The fair girl advanced and bent over me till I could feel the movement of her breath upon me. Sweet it was in one sense, honey-sweet, and sent the same tingling through the nerves as her voice, but with a bitter underlying the sweet, a bitter offensiveness, as one smells in blood. I was afraid to raise my eyelids, but looked out and saw perfectly under the lashes. The girl went on her knees, and bent over me, simply gloating. There was a deliberate voluptuousness which was both thrilling and repulsive, and as she arched her neck she actually licked her lips like an animal, till I could see in the moonlight the moisture shining on the scarlet lips and on the red tongue as it lapped the white sharp teeth." [2016/07/07 18:57] Robinette Waterson (somethingventured): "Lower and lower went her head as the lips went below the range of my mouth and chin and seemed to fasten on my throat. Then she paused, and I could hear the churning sound of her tongue as it licked her teeth and lips, and I could feel the hot breath on my neck. Then the skin of my throat began to tingle as one’s flesh does when the hand that is to tickle it approaches nearer, nearer. I could feel the soft, shivering touch of the lips on the super sensitive skin of my throat, and the hard dents of two sharp teeth, just touching and pausing there. I closed my eyes in languorous ecstasy and waited, waited with beating heart." [2016/07/07 18:59] Robinette Waterson (somethingventured): /me shifts her position on the sofa. She takes a breath, as if she has been holding it up until now, and wets her lips to continue reading. [2016/07/07 19:00] Robinette Waterson (somethingventured): "But at that instant, another sensation swept through me as quick as lightning. I was conscious of the presence of the Count, and of his being as if lapped in a storm of fury. As my eyes opened involuntarily I saw his strong hand grasp the slender neck of the fair woman and with giant’s power draw it back, the blue eyes transformed with fury, the white teeth champing with rage, and the fair cheeks blazing red with passion. But the Count!" [2016/07/07 19:01] Robinette Waterson (somethingventured): /me looks up and mentions in an undertone, "The Count here is Count Dracula, the title character. Mr. Stoker makes him out to be the villain of the story.” [2016/07/07 19:01] Robinette Waterson (somethingventured): "But the Count! Never did I imagine such wrath and fury, even to the demons of the pit. His eyes were positively blazing. The red light in them was lurid, as if the flames of hell fire blazed behind them. His face was deathly pale, and the lines of it were hard like drawn wires. The thick eyebrows that met over the nose now seemed like a heaving bar of white-hot metal. With a fierce sweep of his arm, he hurled the woman from him, and then motioned to the others, as though he were beating them back." [2016/07/07 19:02] Mrs. Lui: “Such delightful prose, I shall have to read it myself.” [2016/07/07 19:03] Robinette Waterson (somethingventured): /me nods eagerly. "Indeed. It kept me riveted, both with its language and the plot." [2016/07/07 19:03] Robinette Waterson (somethingventured): “In a voice which, though low and almost in a whisper seemed to cut through the air and then ring in the room he said, “How dare you touch him, any of you? How dare you cast eyes on him when I had forbidden it? Back, I tell you all! This man belongs to me! Beware how you meddle with him, or you’ll have to deal with me.” [2016/07/07 19:04] Robinette Waterson (somethingventured): “The fair girl, with a laugh of ribald coquetry, turned to answer him. ‘You yourself never loved. You never loved!’ On this the other women joined, and such a mirthless, hard, soulless laughter rang through the room that it almost made me faint to hear. It seemed like the pleasure of fiends. " [2016/07/07 19:04] Robinette Waterson (somethingventured): "Then the Count turned, after looking at my face attentively, and said in a soft whisper, ‘Yes, I too can love. You yourselves can tell it from the past. Is it not so? Well, now I promise you that when I am done with him you shall kiss him at your will. Now go! Go! I must awaken him, for there is work to be done." [2016/07/07 19:07] Robinette Waterson (somethingventured): /me closes the book and looks up. Her hair, loosely coiled to her head, appears now disheveled, with wisps escaping, clinging damply to her face and neck. "Well, that is the first passage." She draws a handkerchief from her sleeve cuff and pats her pale forehead and cheeks. "What do you think? A bit shocking perhaps?" [2016/07/07 19:11] Mrs. Lui: /me settles herself again in to her chair, looking slightly uncomfortable. "perhaps a bit racy for our day, Miss Waterson, but I say many of your penny dreadfuls are just as ribald. What intrigues me is this supernatural count his ladies. What more of them?" [2016/07/07 19:11] Darken Lexicon (darkenlexicon): /me smiles "I do find the Count to be quite intriguing of a character." he chuckles. "I do like the style of the book for certain." he stands and refills his tea cup. After adding the honey he sits back down. "A unique style really." Sipping his tea, his eyes seemed to stare off into the distance. [2016/07/07 19:14] Robinette Waterson (somethingventured): /me looks down at the book, pondering Mrs. Liu's question. "The ladies do appear in the book again. They are not main characters, but they do provide a kind of contrast to Lucy and Mina, the mild-mannered and civilized ladies who are seen when the action moves to London." She nods significantly. "Just think, there could be a count and ladies like them living nearby. If we believe in the story in the book." She puts on a prim face and opens to the second bookmark. [2016/07/07 19:15] Robinette Waterson (somethingventured): /me takes another touch of the sherry. "This is from the point of view of Mina, who is Mr. Harker's affianced.” [2016/07/07 19:16] Robinette Waterson (somethingventured): "I felt the same vague terror which had come to me before and the same sense of some presence. I turned to wake Jonathan, but found that he slept so soundly that it seemed as if it was he who had taken the sleeping draught, and not I. I tried, but I could not wake him. This caused me a great fear, and I looked around terrified. " [2016/07/07 19:16] Robinette Waterson (somethingventured): "Beside the bed, as if he had stepped out of the mist, or rather as if the mist had turned into his figure, for it had entirely disappeared, stood a tall, thin man, all in black. I knew him at once from the description of the others. The waxen face, the high aquiline nose, on which the light fell in a thin white line, the parted red lips, with the sharp white teeth showing between, and the red eyes that I had seemed to see in the sunset on the windows of St. Mary’s Church at Whitby." [2016/07/07 19:17] Robinette Waterson (somethingventured): "For an instant my heart stood still, and I would have screamed out, only that I was paralyzed. With a mocking smile, he placed one hand upon my shoulder and, holding me tight, bared my throat with the other, saying as he did so, ‘First, a little refreshment to reward my exertions. You may as well be quiet. It is not the first time, or the second, that your veins have appeased my thirst!’ I was bewildered, and strangely enough, I did not want to hinder him. I suppose it is a part of the horrible curse that such is, when his touch is on his victim. And oh, my God, my God, pity me! He placed his reeking lips upon my throat! " [2016/07/07 19:18] Robinette Waterson (somethingventured): "I felt my strength fading away, and I was in a half swoon. How long this horrible thing lasted I know not, but it seemed that a long time must have passed before he took his foul, awful, sneering mouth away. I saw it drip with the fresh blood!" [2016/07/07 19:19] Robinette Waterson (somethingventured): “Then he spoke to me mockingly, ‘And you, their best beloved one, are now to me, flesh of my flesh, blood of my blood, kin of my kin, my bountiful wine-press for a while, and shall be later on my companion and my helper. Now you shall come to my call. When my brain says ‘Come!’ to you, you shall cross land or sea to do my bidding. And to that end this!" [2016/07/07 19:19] Robinette Waterson (somethingventured): " With that he pulled open his shirt, and with his long sharp nails opened a vein in his breast. When the blood began to spurt out, he took my hands in one of his, holding them tight, and with the other seized my neck and pressed my mouth to the wound, so that I must either suffocate or swallow some to the – ‘Oh, my God! My God! What have I done?’" [2016/07/07 19:20] Robinette Waterson (somethingventured): /me closes the book again. Her handkerchief presses to her lips and hairline, mussing her hair even more. "Indeed, what has she done?!" [2016/07/07 19:26] Darken Lexicon (darkenlexicon): /me eyes widen as the last bit is read. "I do say, never have I read something quite so." he pauses to think, "Dark. Well in this manner of course." he tapped his bottom lip. "I have to admit, I am immersed." he smiles softly looking to the two ladies. [2016/07/07 19:29] Robinette Waterson (somethingventured): /me rubs her fingers lightly over the cover of the book, as if to savor it with the sense of touch as well as sight. "I do hope Mr. Stoker decides to write more like this one." [2016/07/07 19:31] Darken Lexicon (darkenlexicon): /me stands slowly. Pulling on his gloves as he speaks. "I do regret to leave such lovely company. However, I must depart. Matter to tend to." he gives a small frown. "Once the book is available, I would so enjoy a good read of it. Until next we meet, ladies have a good evening." [2016/07/07 19:32] Robinette Waterson (somethingventured): /me stands to bid her guest adieu. "It was lovely to meet you, Commissioner. Do come back soon!" [2016/07/07 19:34] Mrs. Lui: Such a lovely reading Miss Waterson , I know I shall read this novel once it becomes available. Open Positions6/15/2016 Dark Radiance has
