Races

Dark Radiance is a
world unlike ours. Here supernatural races have existed
for millennia side by side with humans, only hidden. In
years past, humans lived in small villages, most humans did not
travel very far, communication between places was unreliable and
slow. Supernatural creatures could hide themselves well
and if by chance they were discovered by humans the exposure was
contained to just a few humans. A whole village could
disappear if need be or if in a large city death and disease
take many what is a few more.
By the Victorian period, things had changed. In the centuries before this period, humans had become numerous, exceptionally numerous. Humanity now outnumbered the supernatural creatures by thousands to one. Humans had created communications "technology" that linked the cities and most small villages, communications that could be fast. Human innovation also developed more and more devastating weapons, some powerful enough to give the strongest supernaturals pause. No longer could the supernaturals be casual about hiding from humanity, hiding became imperative. Humans became something to be feared despite their being prey. "The Masquerade" as the vampires term it or "The Veil" as the werewolves name it is absolutely necessary. |
