Staff Positions

Dark Radiance currently supports the following staff positions:
  • Garou Lead
  • Human/Hunter Lead
  • Vampire Lead
  • Witch Lead
  • RP Lead
Refer to the Dark Radiance web site @   http://www.dark-radiance.com/staff.html   for information about which positions are open.  Even if a position is filled, please contact either Digit Ditko or the appropriate staff member to see if you can become an assistant lead or help another way.  Everyone is welcome to try and contribute to the roleplay at Dark Radiance.
Open positions are Out of Character roles to help administer and facilitate roleplay at Dark Radiance.   The positions here will also typically have an IC component for roleplay that the applicant is meant to define and develop .     Dark Radiance is a free-form roleplay area set in a Dark Victorian era.   It is approximately 1890 in a small corner of a fictitious London, named Cruor Cross.    All positions will be core collaborators creating and driving roleplay plots at Dark Radiance.

We want to make roleplay at Dark Radiance simple for players and not over complicated with too many rules. One goal of Dark Radiance is to be flexible and allow players some freedom from strict types.   This means allowing a variety of players but still controlling players abilities so that no individual player is too powerful. This usually involves negotiating with a player to limit their requested abilities.

Dark Radiance uses a simple roleplay titler with an integrated dice roller for all roleplay. There is not a complicated meter to mediate roleplay here.   All combat, supernatural abilities, and spells are resolved using roleplay and dice roles.

The staff at Dark Radiance aims to be very collaborative, all lead and other staff positions work together to create story lines for players and all are expected to help drive new and existing stories. It is the hope of the owner that the staff will use their positions at Dark Radiance to bring their unique stamp to the roleplay here, have an opportunity to create a roleplay with their personal stories and have some good roleplay.  The owner of Dark Radiance wants the roleplay to be a collaborative effort of the staff.
Garou Lead
There is a significant vampire and witch presence and maybe even a few hunters in the city area, but there is also a large forest area for roleplay.  There is also a cave system specifically designed with the garou in mind.

The exact structure of the garou tribes, packs, etc. is the responsibility of the garou lead.  The lead is expected to define this structure / organization in a simple way that is based on the source books Werewolf: the Apocalypse and other related roleplay source material. It is assumes that the basic defined in the WoD Werewolf books will be used but exactly how much or how little used is up to the Garou lead.

It is the intention for the garou lead to make the garou roleplay here have their personal stamp and style.  Any information currently published on the Dark Radiance web site can and will be modified to reflect any changes needed by the lead.  The lead is the primary person for garou related roleplay and information but close collaboration with the the other staff is expected.   Dark Radiance has been constructed with completely furnished homes and businesses in most all cases, but if a lead believes some other business / home / place is needed, the owner will try to accommodate these requests.

Assumptions:
  • the Veil is in effect
  • the Litany is observed
  • the caves found on "Dark Radiance I" contain one or more caerns. Therefore there is a sept of garou that protect the caern.
  • the restrictions outlined on the web site for garou are ok.
Human Lead
The roleplay for humans is not based on any book like the other player races.   The human lead is responsible for coordinating human and hunter roleplay activities at Dark Radiance.   The exact structure of the humans and hunters organizations is the responsibility of the human lead, but in general the roleplay is based on the World of Darkness by books by White Wolf Publishing.   Some knowledge of the source material for the vampires, garou, and witches is helpful.   Refer the the player race information at http://www.dark-radiance.com/player-races.html   page for more information.

The local government and control of the businesses in Cruor Cross are the domain of the lead. It is the intention for the lead to make the human / hunter roleplay here have their personal stamp and style.   Any information currently published on the Dark Radiance web site can and will be modified to reflect any changes needed by the lead.   Dark Radiance has been constructed with completely furnished homes and businesses in most all cases, but if a lead believes some other business / home / place is needed, the owner will try to accommodate these requests.

Assumptions:
  • Supernatural creatures are assumed to NOT exist.  Only a very few humans will be aware that any supernatural creatures exist and their information about them will be very limited and often incorrect.
  • the restrictions outlined on the web site for humans and hunters are ok.
Vampire Lead
There is a garou and witch presence, even a few hunters present in Cruor Cross. There is also a crypt system specifically designed for vampires in mind.

The exact structure of the vampire bloodlines / clans and politics is the responsibility of the vampire lead.   The lead is expected to define this structure / organization and roles in a simple way that is based on the source books for Vampire: The Masquerade and other related roleplay source material.

It is the intention for the lead to make the vampire roleplay here have their personal stamp and style. Any information currently published on the Dark Radiance web site can and will be modified to reflect any changes needed by the lead.  The lead is the primary person for vampire related roleplay and information but close collaboration with the the other staff is expected.

Assumptions:
  • the masquerade is in effect!
  • the city is controlled by the camarilla
  • there is a Prince of London but they do NOT reside in the Cruor Cross area of London
  • the Prince may send representatives to this area at any time with new decrees and / or other information
  • the bloodlines / clans are available to players within reason (some clans and sects may not make sense in a Camarilla controlled area or a highly populated one)
  • the six traditions are observed
  • the restrictions outlined on the web site for vampires are ok.
Witch Lead
There is a  garou and vampire presence, even a few hunters may be present in Cruor Cross.

The exact structure of the witch coven(s) and politics is the responsibility of the witch lead.   The lead is expected to define this structure / organization in a simple way that is based on the source books Mage: The Ascension and other related roleplay source material.

It is the intention for the lead to make the witch roleplay here have their personal stamp and style. Any information currently published on the Dark Radiance web site can and will be modified to reflect any changes needed by the lead.  The lead is the primary person for witch related roleplay and information but close collaboration with the the other staff is expected.

Assumptions:<
  • the Veil is in effect
  • Only witches, shamans, and blood witches are supported character types*  (subject to change by lead)
  • the restrictions outlined on the web site for witches are ok.
RP Lead
RP Leads are among the core collaborators for Dark Radiance just like the other lead positions. RP leads help build new story lines and drive roleplay and help other players.   They help shape and direct the roleplay at Dark Radiance by bringing their own character into play in the major storylines played out at Dark Radiance.

There is a significant supernatural presence in Cruor Cross, so RP leads need to familiarize themselves with all the player races available.

RP Leads can be of any race.

Staff Responsibilities

The primary responsibility of any staff member is to facilitate and help the roleplay at Dark Radiance.  Most all of the time that means, roleplaying your own character!  There is some other work involved but the intent is that the work is mainly about planning and plotting roleplay for your own character and others that will help that roleplay.
If you have ever played table top roleplay games, planning and plotting roleplay will be a bit like being a game master for a campaign or session.  But since this is online roleplay, there is not really a game master that coordinates all the roleplay. All that can really be done is to plan and plot for your character, your business, your profession, things your race would do, and things that would happen in a supernatural London in the Victorian era.  Again with the intent that your character has an interesting part to play in those events.

An important thing to realize is that even if you plan and plot wonderful and engaging events some other players may not get interested and once players get involved in one of these plots the roleplay may not go as you planned.  The roleplay whether planned or not can be as fun as you make it.
Now for the less glamorous part, the work part.  After your planning and plotting has been mostly completed, you may need a few things to get that roleplay going.
  • attract players to get involved in your plot.
  • plan times that players can join in to your roleplay and advertise it
  • enhance your planning and plotting to include the planning and plotting of other players and staff
  • help players develop their characters (especially with any eye to getting them into your plots)
  • get that pesky sim owner to rez, create, or buy some item you need for your plot or get permission to change something on the sims for your roleplay.

To accomplish this all staff has access to the following resources:

* There are two shared google calendars for Dark Radiance, one general for all events and one specific for events at the theatre.  People can subscribe to these calendars to see what is going on.  The calendars can be viewed in-world at the the Dark Radiance landing point and outside the theatre.      As staff, you can get access to create events and edit events on these calendars by sharing an email address with that pesky owner, Digit Ditko.  She will send an invitation to you to allowing you access to these calendars.

* The DarkRadiance group. All staff can post and moderate chat in the DarkRadaince group.  Use group chat any time you need.    Staff can also post notices in this group.  In general try to keep the number of notices as few as possible so people do not think we are spamming them.  The suggested notices are one notice early in the day summarizing all the events happening later in the day and any other important information, then one notice when an event is starting.

* Other roleplay groups in Second Life™.  That pesky owner is a member of several roleplay groups and can send notices to those groups about roleplay at Dark Radiance.  For those groups, only one notice per day can be sent so there needs to be some coordination of notices.  The roleplay groups are:
     roleplay Gateway
     roleplay Network
     Seeking roleplay
     The RPC -SL roleplay Center
Wanna RP?    (this can only be used to chat  "want to come RP with me at xxx", type messages)

Let that pesky owner know what you want to send at least the day before and she will try to do it.

Note: If the staff coordinates well on the calendar, then perhaps that pesky sim owner could collect the days calendar events at the beginning of the day and post that info into these other SL roleplay groups and the DarkRadaince group.  Any thoughts on that are appreciated.

* The Dark Radiance web site at www.dark-radiance.com.  The Dark Radiance has all kinds of information about the roleplay here, general roleplay help information and guidelines,  information about the Victorian era, information about the World of Darkness, WoD, games, rentals available on Dark Radiance, etc.

Information about each race is on the web site, so if you are a race lead, let that pesky owner know what you want there.  Any suggestion for web site content are welcome.   There is also background lore about the sim here. so again if something is needed for your planning and plots, let Digit know.

Note: Information on the web site is considered to be definitive.   Digit would rather keep Dark Radiance information in one place, the web site, rather than have a bunch of note cards that need to be kept up to date and distributed.

* There is a google drive share, where all the major non-public information about Dark Radiance is located.  It can be used for the staff to share ideas and docs, etc.  There is lots more source information about the WoD, and other information there. The list of available rentals and the currently open jobs  / positions are on some google sheets, that data displays directly on the web site, so we only need to update the google sheets with data and it is automatically published to the web site.

Again, share an email address with that pesky owner if you want access.

* For notifications about player applications and notification about post sent to staff from inworld, share an email address and you can get these notifications.  (have a look at the Dark Radiance post system at  http://www.dark-radiance.com/post-and-news.html)

* Finally there are the SL specific things about the sim, like changing the music stream, ejecting and banning people, etc.  All staff should get an invite to the "Digit's Family" group.  This is the land group and is considered private.  Please hide this group in your group list.  As staff you should have rez rights and ban / eject rights in this group.
