Dark Radiance is a very visual region.  Many objects in the region use materials and advanced lighting settings to help create the distinctive look and feel for the region.  It is best viewed in High or Ultra graphics settings with the Advanced Lighting Model and Shadows for Sun/Moon/Projectors turned on.   Additionally, it is best viewed with night time windlight settings.  Because most of the common windlight settings appear too light for true night time scenes, custom windlight settings are provided.     

Using custom windlight settings:
To use the custom windlight settings, copy the "DarkRadiance_Sky.xml" file to the Skies sub-directory of the second life windight directory and the "DarkRadiance_sky.xml" file to the Water sub-directory of the second life windlight directory.   These file can be found below. 

The second life windlight directory is operating system specific and is located at the following places:

Windows Vista, Windows  7, Windows 8
    C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\SecondLife\user_settings\windlight\

Windows XP
    C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\SecondLife\user_settings\windlight\

Mac
    In the Finder, use Go menu > Go to Folder and paste in: ~/Library/Application Support/SecondLife/user_settings/windlight/

Linux
    ~/.secondlife/user_settings/windlight/
    
Most third-party viewers use a similar directory, please refer to your third-party viewer instructions for more information.      

How to use custom windlight in Second Life®

• Login to Second Life.
• Go to Me menu > Preferences.
• Click the Graphics tab.
• Set Quality and speed to High or Ultra.   If you click Advanced, you'll see that both High and Ultra have Atmospheric shaders checked, so you can fully see WindLight.
• Click OK
• Go to World menu > Sun > Environment Editor.
• Click the Advanced Sky button.  If you want to change water settings, click Advanced Water instead.
• Next to Sky Presets, click the drop-down and select a preset. The sky changes instantly.  If you're changing a water setting, next to Water Presets, click the drop-down and select a preset. The water changes instantly.
